Job Description

About the Role

Picture a typical week: you start by walking the floor to assess non-emergency work requests, confirm the scope at the equipment, and capture the precise job requirements. You return with annotated drawings and OEM manuals in hand, build thorough job plans, and verify every part, material, and special tool is available before anything hits the calendar. By midweek, you’re guiding a cross-functional planning meeting with Production to align on priorities. You keep a ready backlog at or above 80% so the team always has well-prepared work, and you publish a weekly technician schedule that utilizes 100% of available labor hours across priority corrective work and preventive maintenance.

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate non-urgent work requests, define scope, and perform job site walkdowns to determine requirements.
  • Estimate labor hours, trades/skillsets, parts, materials, equipment, and special tools to execute safely and efficiently.
  • Collect technical documents (drawings, schematics, specs, spare parts lists, OEM manuals, and Knowledgebase entries) and confirm part availability before scheduling; arrange any specialized tools or auxiliary equipment.
  • Organize and prioritize the work order backlog; maintain a Ready Backlog of 80% or higher.
  • Continuously refine job plans for accuracy and effectiveness through lessons learned and improvement cycles.
  • Lead weekly planning and scheduling meetings with Production to set priorities, share status, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Publish a Weekly Technician Schedule that blends priority planned jobs with PMs to fully load technician labor (100%).
  • Use maintenance metrics and reviews to improve planning and scheduling performance.
  • Maintain records and files to enable robust analysis and reporting of maintenance activities.
  • Train site personnel on the CMMS, ensuring data integrity and full utilization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field with 1–3 years of maintenance planning/scheduling experience; and/or 5–10 years as a machine repair technician; or an equivalent combination.
  • Background in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Strong electro-mechanical aptitude.
  • Computer fluency, including CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Clear verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to cultivate and sustain professional working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in developing leadership capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with job plan creation, scheduling, and work execution.
  • Project management and capital project exposure.
  • Certifications: CMRP, Green Belt, STS.

Core Competencies

  • Drive & Motivation
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Task Management
  • Strategic Skills
  • Customer Focus

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role involves frequent standing and walking; regular use of hands and fingers; reaching; climbing and balancing (including use of ladders or lifts); and entering confined spaces for tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Clear verbal communication and hearing are required. Sitting occurs occasionally. You may occasionally need to lift or move items over 50 pounds. Close and color vision are regularly needed. Expect occasional exposure to outdoor weather and potential electrical hazards. Work is primarily in a factory environment that can be very loud, with possible exposure to hazardous substances and greasy or slippery floors.
